Dolmetsch - Arnold Dolmetsch

A British scholar of early music and early musical instruments, with ancestry in France, Switzerland, Germany and Bohemia. Born in Le Mans, France, he studied at the Royal College of Music in London. Raised in a musical family environment, he devoted himself to deciphering pre-Baroque sheet music and restoring musical instruments, and gave concerts every two weeks with his wife, children, relatives and acquaintances. Not only did he play the lute, viol, clavichord and harpsichord, but by 1926 he had reconditioned a recorder in every dimension and used it at a music festival. This became the basis for the recorder that is now used in school education and early music performances in many countries. In 1929, he established the Dolmetsch Foundation to support research and performance. His books include "Performance Interpretations of the 17th and 18th Centuries" (1915).

フランス、スイス、ドイツ、ボヘミアにも先祖をもつイギリスの古楽・古楽器研究家。フランスのル・マンに生まれ、ロンドンのロイヤル音楽カレッジに学ぶ。音楽にゆかりの深い家庭環境に育ち、バロック以前の楽譜解読、楽器復原の努力を重ね、妻子・親類・知己とともに2週間ごとの演奏会を催した。リュート、ビオール、クラビコード、ハープシコードなどを扱ったばかりか、1926年までにはリコーダーをすべての寸法で整備し、音楽祭で実際に利用した。これが現在多くの国の学校教育や古楽演奏に使われているリコーダーの基礎となった。1929年、研究・演奏の助成を目的としたドルメッチ財団を設立。著書に『17、18世紀の演奏解釈』（1915）がある。
