A block is a tool used in machining, with a vertical rod fixed to the block with a flat bottom, and a marking needle attached so that it can be raised and lowered along the rod. 〘名〙 (語源未詳) 機械工作で、底面を平らに仕上げたブロックに垂直な棒を固定し、この棒にそって上下に昇降させることができるように罫書針(けがきばり)を取りつけたもの。工作物に定盤面と平行な線を罫引きする際に用いる。
