Thread Cargo Ship (Thread Cargo Ship) - Itoni Kaisen
In the early modern period, a ship from Osaka or Sakai was a privileged ship permitted by the shogunate to transport raw silk imported from abroad to Nagasaki. Among these, the Sakai-based ship carrying threads was also called Sakai-sen, and its owner was limited to Sakai merchants. The ship was designated as a privileged ship by displaying a "Official" ship's seal or a spear and hanging a curtain of two navy blue and three white colors. The boatman was permitted to carry a sword. In cases where urgent delivery of imported raw silk was required, an exception was made to procure another ship with the permission of the Sakai senior retainer, and this ship was called a temporary ship.
