A former town in Motosu County in the southwest of Gifu Prefecture. Located in the northern Nobi Plain, it produces rice, vegetables, and fruit. The Fuyu persimmon is a local specialty. It is connected to the Tarumi Railway and also produces wood products, electrical equipment, and other products. In February 2004, it merged with Motosu Town, Shinjo Town, and Neo Village in Motosu County to form Motosu City. Area: 15.86 km2 . Population: 11,877 (2003).
