A Chinese literati painter in the late Yuan and early Ming periods. His pen name was Youwen and his pen name was Bei Guo Sheng. His hometown was Sichuan. He moved from Changzhou (Wujin, Jiangsu Province) to Wu (Suzhou, Jiangsu Province). In 1374 (the 7th year of Hongwu), he was encouraged to go to the capital, and in 1376 he became a tutor, and later became the Left Governor of Henan. However, he was accused of entertaining soldiers on the march, and died of illness in prison. He inherited the style of the four great masters of the late Yuan period, and excelled in landscape painting. He was also famous as a poet, and was known as one of the "Four Great Masters of Wu" along with Gao Qi (Qingqiu), Yang Ji, and Zhang Yu. He wrote the 10-volume Bei Guo Shu.

中国，元末･明初の文人画家。字は幼文，号は北郭生。原籍は四川省。常州(江蘇省武進)より呉(江蘇省蘇州)に徙居した。1374年(洪武7)すすめられて上京し，76年給事中となり，のち河南左布政使に至ったが，行軍兵士の接待について訴えられ，獄中に病死した。元末四大家の画風を継承して山水画を得意としたほか，詩人としても著名で，高啓(青丘)，楊基，張羽とともに〈呉中の四傑〉と称せられた。著に《北郭集》10巻がある。
