A village in Ishikawa County at the southern tip of Ishikawa Prefecture. Population 750 (1995). A mountain village on the border with Gifu Prefecture, located at the northern foot of Mt. Hakusan, upstream of the Tedori River. The Tedori River flows north through the west, and the Ozoe River, a tributary, flows along the northern border. With little arable land, the village is famous for its wasabi, nameko mushrooms, and wild vegetables, and is also well-known for cultivating freshwater fish such as char and rainbow trout. The southeastern part is included in Hakusan National Park, and in summer it is a bustling area as the starting point for climbing Mt. Hakusan. There are Iwama Onsen and Hakusan Ichirino Recreation Village, and in winter it attracts many skiers. The Iwama fountain towers have been designated a special natural monument, and the Higashi Futakuchi Fumiya dolls have been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. 石川県南端,石川郡の村。人口750(1995)。手取川上流の白山北麓に位置する岐阜県境の山村で,西部を手取川が北流し,北境を支流の尾添川が流れる。耕地に乏しく,ワサビ,ナメコ,山菜などを特産し,イワナ,ニジマスなどの淡水魚の養殖も盛ん。南東部は白山国立公園に含まれ,夏は白山登山口としてにぎわう。岩間温泉,白山一里野保養村があり,冬はスキー客が多い。岩間の噴泉塔群は特別天然記念物,東二口文弥人形は重要無形民俗文化財に指定されている。
