A former town in Hiraka County, southeastern Akita Prefecture. The town is located in the southeastern part of the Yokote Basin and developed as a settlement at the mouth of the Minase and Naruse Rivers. It was a key transportation point with a market since the Edo period, but nowadays the commercial center is Jumonji Town (now Yokote City), where a station on the Ou Main Line is located. The town produces sake and soy sauce, and is also a thriving producer of apples and rice. In October 2005, Jumonji Town, Omori Town, Omonogawa Town, Hiraka Town, Yamauchi Village, and Daiyu Village in Hiraka County were incorporated into Yokote City. 74.21 km2 . 8,996 people (2003). 秋田県南東部,平鹿(ひらか)郡の旧町。市街は横手盆地南東部にあり,皆瀬川,成瀬川の渓口集落として発達,江戸時代から市場も開かれ交通の要地でもあったが,現在は奥羽本線の駅のある十文字町(現・横手市)が商業の中心。清酒,醤油を産し,リンゴ,米の栽培も盛ん。2005年10月平鹿郡十文字町,大森町,雄物川町,平鹿町,山内村,大雄村と横手市へ編入。74.21km2。8996人(2003)。
