...When a corporation issues new shares after its establishment within the number of shares planned to be issued (number of authorized shares). These shares are called new shares or subsidiary shares (the shares already issued are called old shares or parent shares). Issuing new shares is one way for a corporation to raise funds, but unlike borrowing from a bank or the general public (corporate bonds), it is a way to raise self-funds and expand the company's size both physically and personnel. New share issuances can be broadly divided into regular new share issuances and special new share issuances.

[Stock dividends, interim dividends]
Profit dividends are technically paid in cash, but dividends in the form of stocks are also permitted. This is called a stock dividend, and all or part of the dividend is incorporated into capital and new stock is issued to be distributed to shareholders. If a stock has a par value of 50 yen and the stock dividend is 5 yen per share, it is paid at a ratio of 1 share (tax included) for every 10 shares.
