New Society - Shinshakai

Japanese:
New Society - Shinshakai
A socialist enlightenment magazine founded by Sakai Toshihiko in September 1915 by Ubunsha. Monthly. Sakai went a step further than "Luffa Flower" (founded in January 1914) and proclaimed a "small flag raising" of the socialist movement. It was an expression of a stance to move forward even a little from the "winter age", saying, "It is not a flag that can be called a battle cry and valiantly raised, but it is no doubt a small paper flag hoisted on the tip of a bald fountain pen." In August 1917, it went from being privately managed by Sakai to being jointly managed by Arahata Kanson, Yoshikawa Morikuni, Takabatake Motoyuki, Yamazaki Kesaya, Yamakawa Kinu, and Watanabe Masataro, and from around the middle of 1918, the influence of the national socialist faction, including Takabatake and Kitahara Tatsuo, became stronger.
