Flag leaf - Tomeba (English spelling)

Flag leaf - Tomeba (English spelling)
The leaf that grows at the top of the stem of a grass crop. Whether it is the main stem or a tiller, the ear grows above this. The shape of the flag leaf is basically the same as the leaves below it, but the leaf blade is shorter and wider in comparison. The leaf sheath is also long, and because the ear develops within this sheath before it emerges, the leaf sheath gradually swells and exhibits a unique "ear-spreading" state. The number of leaves that form sequentially from the base of the main stem to the flag leaf at the tip is called the main stem leaf number, and in rice, this varies from about 12 to 24, but when a specific variety is cultivated in a specific region, this value is almost constant.
