…A title of a position in the Edo Shogunate. Also called a castle guard. There was one official each for the Roju control, Kyobashiguchi, and Tamazukuriguchi. They were responsible for guarding the inside and outside of the Kyobashiguchi of Osaka Castle and the Sujitetsumon Gate of the northern outer moat, as well as the inside and outside of the Tamazukuriguchi and the east partition. According to the Ryuei Honin, the first were Takagi Masatsugu and Inagaki Shigetsuna in 1621 (7th Genna period), and after these two there was a hiatus for a while, but it was revived and continued until the end of the Edo period. 29 officials were appointed to the Kyobashiguchi and 28 to the Tamazukuriguchi. They were selected from daimyo with 10,000 to 20,000 koku of rice, and the term of office was indefinite, with the long-term being 27 years and the short-term being less than one year.
