Born: February 19, 1821 in Meiningen
Died: December 6, 1868, Jena German linguist. Professor at the University of Prague and the University of Jena. He engaged in the study of Indo-European languages ​​and made a great contribution to the development of their comparative grammar. He is particularly notable for being the first to attempt to reconstruct the proto-language. Influenced by Hegel's philosophy of history and Darwin's theory of evolution, he proposed the theory of linguistic phylogenetic trees, based on the view that language is an organism that has a life of its own and evolves. He is the author of many books, including Compendium der vergleichenden Grammatik der indogermanischen Sprachen (1861), a handbook on the comparative grammar of Indo-European languages.

Schleicher, Kurt von

[Died] June 30, 1934. German soldier and politician at Potsdam. In 1918, he worked as secretary to General of the Ordnance Commission W. Groener to organize the Freikord (Freikord), and in 1923, he became adjutant to Army Commander H. Seeckt. In 1925, with the inauguration of President P. Hindenburg, he gradually expanded his influence within the Wehrmacht. In 1932, he became Minister of Defense in the cabinet of F. von Papen, and in December of the same year, after Papen's resignation, he became the last Chancellor of the Weimar Republic. He tried to suppress the power of A. Hitler and the Nazis by using the Wehrmacht, but failed. He retired from politics in January 1933, but was assassinated by the SS in June 1934 in the Röhm incident.

ドイツの軍人,政治家。 1918年兵站総監 W.グレーナーの秘書として義勇軍 (フライコール) の編成に奔走,23年陸軍司令官 H.ゼークトの副官となった。 25年 P.ヒンデンブルクの大統領就任とともに国防軍のなかで次第に勢力を拡張。 32年 F.フォン・パーペン内閣の国防相,同年 12月パーペンの辞任後ワイマール共和国最後の首相となった。彼は国防軍を利用して,A.ヒトラーとナチスの勢力を抑えようとしたが失敗,33年1月以降政界を引退したものの,34年6月レーム事件でSSによって暗殺された。
