...This is an introduction to the study of national character from the perspective that individuals embody the culture in which they grew up and live, and that new cultures are created by groups of individuals. There are two ways of classifying personality and character common to groups: (1) "basic personality" (Kardiner A.), which states that individual personalities are formed in accordance with the dominant institutions of society through commonalities in child-rearing styles and family relationships in infancy, and (2) "most frequent personality" (Linton R.), which seeks to base personality by expressing the most frequently distributed behavioral patterns among a variety of behavioral patterns. "Basic personality" shows that there is a correlation between social structure and changes in personality. ...
