1888‐1947 Thai military politician. His real name was Pot Phahonyothin. Born into a military family, he studied military science in Germany and Denmark for 10 years after graduating from the military academy in 1904. He studied in Japan from 1919 to 1921, and is said to have been an admirer of Saigo Takamori. He was popular among young officers and was recommended to be the leader of the Thai People's Party, a secret political group made up of young bureaucrats with both literary and military backgrounds who aimed to overthrow the absolute monarchy. With his extraordinary leadership, he succeeded in the constitutional revolution (also called the Thai People's Party Revolution) in June 1932. As prime minister from June 1933 to 1938, he unified the Thai People's Party, which was constantly fighting factions, and contributed to the establishment of constitutionalism in Thailand, earning him the title of "father of Thai constitutionalism."
