A palace built in Rome by Emperor Nero after the great fire of 64. It means "Golden House". The architects were Severus and Celer. It was a large palace surrounded by pastoral gardens with an artificial lake at the center, located where the Colosseum is now, and its site is estimated to have been 50 to 150 hectares. After Nero's death in 68, it was left unfinished and rapidly disappeared. Only one part of it, with a frontage of about 220 meters (originally about 360 meters), which stands under the Baths of Trajan, is well known.
