Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic

The term is used to refer to the area of ​​the southeastern part of the Transcaucasia region in southeastern Europe and the region facing the Caspian Sea in northwestern Iran. The part that was part of the former Soviet Union was the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan, but in August 1991 it became independent as the Republic of Azerbaijan. The part that was part of Iran is divided into two provinces, East and West Azerbaijan.
