A shrub-like evergreen perennial plant of the Asteraceae family native to South Africa, it is generally cultivated as a potted plant in a greenhouse. Its Japanese name is Rurihinagiku. Improved varieties include a large-flowered tetraploid species and a variety with variegated leaves that are pale yellow in color. It branches well and grows to a height of about 30 cm when potted. The leaves are opposite, oval, and coarsely hairy. It produces flower heads with a blue-yellow center and a diameter of 2 to 2.5 cm at the top of the stem. The flower necks are long. It blooms almost year-round, but often blooms between June and October. It is sensitive to cold, so it should be protected in a greenhouse or other place to prevent it from freezing in winter.
