The ancient Roman goddess of chastity and fertility. Her name means "good goddess." Her real name was said to be Fauna or Faula, as she was said to be the sister, wife or daughter of Faunus, the god of shepherds and livestock. Her festival was held every December in the home of the person who was the consul or praetor for that year, and was attended by only women, presided over by the Vestalis, a priestess who served Vesta, the goddess of the hearth.
