...This method is aimed at statically indeterminate frame structures made of ductile materials that can withstand large plastic deformation without breaking, and involves introducing the concept of plastic hinges to calculate the collapse load, and designing the structure so that a certain safety factor (called the load factor) is ensured against this collapse load. It is considered one of the design methods included in the broader limit design method, and has been widely adopted in the design of buildings since the mid-1960s, mainly in the United States and the United Kingdom.
