unified command

...a general term for a unit consisting of the Army, Navy (including Marines), and Air Force, or two or more of the most powerful units of the same nation, operating under a single commander authorized to exercise unified command or operational control. This concept was developed during World War II, and during the Pacific War, Generals MacArthur and Nimitz organized Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps units under their command, respectively, to invade Japan from two fronts as the Southwest Pacific Army and the Central Pacific Army. Both of these were examples of unified forces.
