A shamisen player of Nagauta and Joruri. There are three generations, but the number of the second and third generations is unknown. The first (1712-67) was originally called Bungoro, and later called Azumabusendayu. He became a disciple of Tenkaichi Heizaemon, and later studied under Kineya Rokuzaemon IV, and is said to have performed in Kabuki, but is also said to have been a disciple of Kineya Kangoro III. He was a master of the shamisen and a skilled composer, and is said to have composed Bungo-bushi. He was well-received for playing shamisen on stage. He is said to have composed six secret pieces called Sancho-yo-sanchiku, of which two, Fushi-neko and Kuruijishi, were later revised and remain to this day. 長唄,浄瑠璃の三味線方。3世を数えるが,2世,3世については不詳。初世(1712‐67)は初名文五郎,のち東武線太夫(あずまぶせんだゆう)と名のる。天下一平左衛門の門弟となり,のち4代目杵屋(きねや)六左衛門に師事し,歌舞伎に出勤したといわれるが,3代目杵屋勘五郎の門弟ともいわれる。三味線の名手で作曲も巧みで,豊後節の作曲者でもあるという。舞台では三味線の曲弾きを勤めて好評を博した。彼は《三鳥三畜(さんちようさんちく)》と呼ばれる6曲の秘曲を作曲したと伝えられ,そのうち《臥猫(ふしねこ)》《狂獅子(くるいじし)》の2曲はのちに補訂されて現在も残されている。
