A book in the Jewish Apocalypse of Baruch. It is in the form of a letter sent from Babylonia to Palestine after the destruction of the First Temple. It is considered apocryphal by Jewish and Protestant churches, but the Greek Orthodox and Catholic churches consider it to be one of the canonical books of the Old Testament. The supposed author, Baruch, was a disciple and scribe of Jeremiah, but the book itself is not his. It is believed to have been a collection of works written by several authors, both in Greek and Hebrew, and is dated to the mid-2nd century BCE and 70 CE. It contains a long confession of faith and prayer, praise of wisdom, or the law, and an exhortation to observe the law as the fountain of life.
