Warm ischemia time

...Apart from kidneys, which have two organs, organs that only have one can only be obtained from cadavers. The time from when blood flow stops to when the organ is transplanted and blood flow resumes is called the ischemic time. If ischemic time occurs at body temperature, cells die because they are not supplied with oxygen or nutrients, even though their metabolism is still occurring. This time is called the warm ischemic time, which is set at 0 minutes for the heart and liver and 30 minutes for the kidneys and lungs, and organs must be cooled quickly to suppress cell metabolism. If the organ is removed from a brain-dead patient with the heart still beating, it can be taken out without any damage, and the warm ischemic time can be shortened.
