A city in northern India, in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, facing the Rapti River, a tributary of the Ganga. A key railway site. Grains, sugar cane, and other products are traded here, and there is a sugar manufacturing industry. Founded around 1400. Developed as a garrison for British Gurkha troops.
