Russian fur trader and explorer. Also spelled Shelekhov. Since 1775, he made numerous voyages in search of furry animals (mainly sea otters and fur seals) living in the North Pacific and the Sea of Okhotsk. In 1783, together with Golikov, he set out on three ships for Alaska, and in August 1784, founded the first Russian colony in North America on Kodiak Island. Between 1790 and 1794, he participated in the founding of several fur companies, which were the basis for the founding of the Russian-American Company after his death.

ロシアの毛皮商人，探検家。シェレホフShelekhovとも書く。1775年以来北太平洋，オホーツク海にすむ毛皮獣(おもにラッコとオットセイ)を求めて何度も航海を行った。83年，ゴリコフGolikovとともに，3隻の船を仕立ててアラスカに向かい，84年8月，コディアク島に北アメリカにおける最初のロシア植民地を建設した。90年から94年にかけて，いくつかの毛皮会社の創設に参加したが，それらを基礎にして彼の死後〈露米会社〉が設立された。
