The land issue can be defined as a situation in which a small number of people exercise exclusive control over land, a resource essential to human survival, creating a sharp conflict of interest between them and the majority who do not have that control. Control over land differs depending on the historical stage of each society, but in capitalist societies it is generally called ownership of land, and is considered to refer to the exclusive right to use, profit from, and dispose of a specific piece of land.
