Pinanga palm

Japanese: ピナンガ（英語表記）pinanga palm

Genus of small palms found in the Oriental tropics. The trunk is slender, straight, solitary or clumped, and annular. The leaves are pinnately lobed and 0.3-2m long. The pinnae are usually few in number, opposite or alternate, often broad at the bottom and attached to the rachis, linear, linear sickle-shaped or oblong, with the tip or anterior half of the pinnae truncate-dentate. The spadix grows from the base of the lowest leaf sheath, is pendent, usually single-branched, and each branch is spike-shaped. There is one spadix. The flowers are monoecious. The fruit is ovate or elliptical, orange or reddish purple when ripe, and 1-2.5cm long.
