Itháki Island (English spelling)

Japanese: イターキ[島]（英語表記）Itháki

It is an island located at the outlet of the Gulf of Corinth, belonging to the Ionian Islands in western Greece. In classical Greek it was called Ithakē, and in English it is called Ithaca. Its area is 84 km2, and its population is about 5,000 (1971). It is a mountainous region separated into north and south by a narrow isthmus, and produces olive oil, wine, and raisins. It has been known since ancient times as the homeland of Odysseus, the hero of Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey. [Ikezawa Natsuki]
