1879‐1956 A modern Iranian satirist. He studied French in Tehran and worked at Iranian embassies in Eastern Europe. During the Iranian Constitutional Revolution, he gained popularity by writing satirical essays, "Charand Parand (Nonsense)," in the pro-constitutional weekly newspaper, "Suīl-e-Israfil," skillfully in the language of the common people of the bazaar. After the 1908 counter-revolution, he continued to publish the paper in Switzerland. From the 1930s, he compiled the Persian "Defkhoda Dictionary."
