1879‐1956
A modern Iranian satirist. He studied French in Tehran and worked at Iranian embassies in Eastern Europe. During the Iranian Constitutional Revolution, he gained popularity by writing satirical essays, "Charand Parand (Nonsense)," in the pro-constitutional weekly newspaper, "Suīl-e-Israfil," skillfully in the language of the common people of the bazaar. After the 1908 counter-revolution, he continued to publish the paper in Switzerland. From the 1930s, he compiled the Persian "Defkhoda Dictionary." [Kagatani Hiroshi]

近代イランの風刺作家。テヘランでフランス語を修め，東欧のイラン公館に勤務。イラン立憲革命のとき，立憲派週刊紙《スーレ･イスラーフィール》紙上で風刺的エッセー《チャランド･パランド(たわごと)》を，バーザールの庶民の言葉で巧みに書き人気を博した。1908年反革命後，スイスで上記紙を発行しつづけた。1930年代からペルシア語の《デフホダー辞典》を編纂した。【加賀谷寛】
