A major British commercial bank. Headquartered in London. Founded in Birmingham in 1836 as the Birmingham and Midland Bank by Charles Geach, then secretary of the Bank of England's Birmingham branch. In 1891, it acquired a bank in London and changed its name to London and Midland Bank Ltd. It expanded its business by acquiring and merging with many other banks through the early 20th century. イギリスの大手商業銀行。本社ロンドン。1836年,当時のイングランド銀行バーミンガム支店の書記ギーチCharles GeachによりBirmingham and Midland Bankとしてバーミンガムに設立。91年ロンドンの銀行を買収,London and Midland Bank Ltd.と改称。その後20世紀初めにかけて数多くの銀行を買収・合併して業務内容を拡大した。1912年には本店をバーミンガムからロンドンに移した。
