Toshin (English spelling) civic center

Japanese: 都心 - としん（英語表記）civic center

Located in the center of a city, this is an area where political, economic, cultural and other central functions are concentrated. It is home to business management functions such as banks, companies, and administrative facilities, as well as high-end and specialty retail stores, department stores, wholesale shopping districts, and cultural and entertainment facilities. Today, the term central business district (CBD) is often used instead of city center. City centers tend to be highly high-rise, have a large daytime population, and experience heavy daytime traffic.
