Sakugi [village] - Sakugi

Japanese: 作木[村] - さくぎ

A village in Futami County in northern Hiroshima Prefecture. Population 2,067 (1995). Located in the Chugoku Mountains, it occupies the eastern bank of the Gono River, which meanders and incises as it flows north. Dairy farming and the cultivation of shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, and pears are carried out in the mountainous areas, and freshwater fisheries such as sweetfish fishing are thriving in the Gono River. There are scenic spots such as Jokiyo Falls and the Suritaki Fossil Group, a prefectural natural monument. The San'in Line, which connects Miyoshi City and Gotsu City, and National Route 375 pass through the area. [Shimizu Yasuatsu]
