Tosu [city] - Tosu
A city in the eastern part of Saga Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies the plains from the eastern slope of the Sefuri Mountains to the middle reaches of the Chikugo River. It is a transportation hub where the Kagoshima Main Line, Nagasaki Main Line, Kyushu Expressway, Nagasaki Expressway, Oita Expressway, National Highway Route 3 and Route 34 diverge. In March 2011, the Kyushu Shinkansen was opened via Shin-Tosu. The Tosu Commerce and Industry Park is a logistics hub with a wholesale center and truck terminal. Industry is also thriving, with pharmaceutical, tire, food, and electrical factories, and the city had the highest industrial shipment value in the prefecture (2003). In 1984, it was designated a technopolis along with Kurume City in Fukuoka Prefecture, and the development of the northern hilly new city is currently underway. In addition to rice, vegetables such as lettuce and green asparagus are also grown. 71.72 km2 . 69,074 people (2010).

佐賀県東部の市。1954年市制。脊振山地の東斜面から筑後川中流の平野を占める。鹿児島本線と長崎本線,九州自動車道と長崎自動車道・大分自動車道,国道3号線と34号線が分岐する交通要地で,2011年3月には新鳥栖を経由する九州新幹線も開通,鳥栖商工団地には卸売センター,トラックターミナルなどがあり,物流拠点となっている。工業も盛んで,製薬,タイヤ,食品,電機などの工場があり,県内1位の工業出荷額(2003)がある。1984年福岡県久留米市とともにテクノポリス指定を受け,北部丘陵新都市の開発整備が進行中。米作のほかレタス,グリーンアスパラなどの野菜栽培も行われる。71.72km2。6万9074人(2010)。
