Right of independence

One of the fundamental rights granted to a nation under international law. It is the external aspect of sovereignty, and refers to the right to manage both external and internal affairs in relation to foreign nations without being subject to foreign governing powers. It is also called external sovereignty, as it means that a nation is not subject to or bound by the power of other nations against its will.

国際法上，国家に認められた基本的権利の一つ。主権を対外的側面からみたもので，外国との関係において，外国の支配権力に服することなく，対外・対内事項を処理しうる権利をいう。国家は自己の意思に反して他の国家権力に従属しない，あるいは拘束されないことを意味するので，対外主権とも呼ばれる。
