A city in the central Punjab province of Pakistan, near the confluence of the Jhelum and Chenab rivers. Population 196,000 (1981). Jhang was a commercial and industrial city that prospered through the distribution of wheat, cotton, and wool produced in the Rechna Doab region, which is surrounded by the Chenab and Rabi rivers, as well as through industries such as cotton ginning, hand-woven cotton cloth, and leather products. Maggiana was located on the outskirts and was the capital of Jhang District. The two cities have now been merged to form the capital of Jhang-Magiana District.
