Khusraw wa‐Shīrin (English spelling)

Japanese: ホスローとシーリーン（英語表記）Khusraw wa‐Shīrīn

This is one of the 6,500 verses in the Romance Epic Pentalogy by the Iranian poet Nizami, sung between 1177 and 1181. It is a love story based on the Sassanid king Khosrow II (reigned 590-628) and the beautiful Shirin. The long love affair between Khosrow and Shirin, their marriage, and the tragedy of Shirin's suicide after the assassination of her king have been widely praised throughout Iran and the eastern Islamic world, and have been depicted in miniatures and performed as a ballet in Russia.
