An old town in Hiba County, in the northeastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, bordering Okayama and Tottori Prefectures. The central settlement is at the bottom of a small basin on the Tojo River, a tributary of the Takahashi River, and is the transportation and commercial center along the Geibi Line. The town produces rice, eggs, beef cattle, raw milk, and limestone. Taishaku Gorge in the south and Mt. Dogo in the north belong to the Hiba-Dogo-Taishaku Quasi-National Park. The Chugoku Expressway runs through the town. In March 2005, Hiwa Town was incorporated into Shobara City along with Soryo Town in Kono County, Saijo Town in Hiba County, Kuchiwa Town, and Koya Town. 304.92 km2 . Population: 10,372 (2003).
