Albius Tibullus

An ancient Roman elegiac poet. He belonged to a salon of literati patronized by the aristocrat Messala. He incorporated pastoral elements into his love elegiac poems, and in a delicate and elegant style, he sang of dreams of a rural life spent with his lover Delia, as well as unrequited love for his other lover, Nemesis. The Complete Works of Tibullus also includes poems by Lygdamus and Sulpicia, who were also from the same salon, as well as works by unknown authors.

古代ローマのエレゲイア詩人。貴族メッサラをパトロンとする文人たちのサロンに所属。恋愛エレゲイア詩に牧歌の要素を取り入れ、繊細優美なスタイルで恋人デーリアと過ごす田園生活の夢や、もう1人の恋人ネメシスへの報われない愛を歌った。『ティブルス全集』は、同じ文人サロンのリュグダムスとスルピキアの詩と作者不詳の作品も含む。
