An old town in Kato County, southeastern Hyogo Prefecture. The main settlement, Tenjin, is located along the Tojo River, a tributary of the Kako River, and has long been famous as a producer of rice for sake brewing. Local industries include the manufacture of fishing hooks and carp streamers. Lake Tojo, used for irrigation, is also a popular tourist spot. In March 2006, the town merged with Yashiro Town and Takino Town in Kato County to become Kato City. Area: 50.32 km2 . Population: 7,513 (2003). 兵庫県南東部,加東郡の旧町。主集落の天神は加古川の支流東条川に沿い,古くから酒造米の産地として有名。地場産業として釣針,鯉幟(こいのぼり)製造を行う。灌漑(かんがい)用の東条湖は行楽地でもある。2006年3月,加東郡社町,滝野町と合併し市制,加東市となる。50.32km2。7513人(2003)。
