A former town in Tohaku County, central Tottori Prefecture. Matsuzaki, the main settlement on the southeast shore of Lake Togo, is along the San'in Main Line and is a hot spring town with Togo (Matsuzaki) Onsen (a salt-containing gypsum spring, 85-94° C). It is famous for cultivating Nijisseiki pears. There are remains of the jori system and Shidori Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Hoki Province. In October 2004, it merged with Ugo Town and Tomari Village in Tohaku County to form Yurihama Town. 47.07 km2 . 6,699 people (2003).

In October 2004, Kawauchi City merged with Satsuma County's Hiwaki Town, Iriki Town, Kedoin Town, Sato Village, Kamikoshiki Village, Shimokoshiki Village, and Kashima Village to become Satsuma Sendai City.
