Kitashirakawa ruins - Kitashirakawa ruins
A group of ruins from the Jomon to Yayoi periods in Kitashirakawa and Yoshida, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. They are located on the Kitashirakawa alluvial fan, one of the complex alluvial fans formed on the southwestern foot of Mt. Hiei in the northeastern part of the Kyoto Basin. From the northeast, they are divided into the Kitashirakawa Kamihatecho ruins, Bettoucho and Oguracho ruins, Oiwakecho ruins, and the Yoshidayama Seiroku ruins. There are also ruins from the Early to Late Jomon period on the alluvial fans at Ichijoji and Shugakuin, about 1.5 km to the north, and the Okazaki ruins from the Jomon to Kofun periods, 1.5 km to the south. The Kamihatecho ruins were excavated by Kobayashi Yukio and others in 1934, and in addition to the remains of a dwelling from the end of the middle Jomon period, early mold-patterned pottery and late Kitashirakawa upper layer pottery were discovered.
