824 koro-892 A hadith scholar born in Tirmidh (now Termiz) in the upper reaches of the Amu Darya. Although blind, he traveled to Khorasan, Hijaz, and other places to collect traditions. The result of his work, Sunan al-Tirmidhi (also known as Jāmi' al-ṣaḥīḥ), which contains about 4,000 works, is counted among the six books of hadith. The contents of this book have been criticized for being biased toward the Shiite sect, but it also contains many tafsir (interpretations of the Quran) and information about the Prophet and his companions.
