A Korean civil official in the mid-Yi dynasty. His pen name was Jeongsuk and his title was Hojeong. He was from Gwangju, Jeolla Province. He was sent to the Ming Dynasty as a Chin envoy in 1630 (the 8th year of the reign of King Injo), and returned to Korea the following year with Chinese translations of Western books such as Matteo Ricci's Astronomical Texts, The Book of the Mirror, The Theory of the Thousand-Long Mirror, The Record of the Extraordinary Works, and The Customs of Western Countries, as well as artillery, a telescope, a clock, and other instruments. This, along with the Letter of Question and Answer in which the translator Ri Youngho, who was part of the group, asked the Italian Rodrigues (Lu Wakhan) about the method of estimating Western calendar systems, was the first record of the introduction of Western culture and science to Korea.

朝鮮，李朝中期の文臣。字は丁叔，号は壺亭。全羅道光州の人。1630年(仁祖8)に陳奏使として明に使いし，翌年マテオ･リッチの《天文書》《遠鏡書》《千里鏡説》《職方外記》《西洋国風俗記》等の漢訳西洋書や火砲，千里鏡(望遠鏡)，自鳴鐘(時計)等の器機を携えて帰国した。これは一行の訳官李栄後がイタリア人ロドリゲス(陸若漢)に西洋暦法の推算法をたずねた〈問答書簡〉とともに，西洋文物･科学の朝鮮移入の最初の記録となった。
