Kinka

Japanese: 金華 - きんか
Kinka

A prefecture-level city in central Zhejiang Province, China. It is located in the Jinhua River basin, a tributary of the Qiantang River. It has a population of 4,751,000 (2014). It governs two city districts and three counties, and acts as the governing agent for four county-level cities, including Lanxi and Yiwu (as of 2016). During the Later Han dynasty, Changshan County was established, and during the Sui dynasty, it was renamed Wuning, Dongyang, and later became Jinhua County. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was the administrative center of Jinhua Prefecture, and in 1949, city status was implemented for the urban area. It was abolished in 1962, but was revived in 1979, and in 1981, Jinhua County was incorporated.

The surrounding rural areas produce rice, rapeseed, jute, tobacco, and other crops, and freshwater fish farming and pig farming are thriving, with pig bristles and "Jinhua ham" being well-known specialties. As the starting point of water transportation on the Jinhua River and the Shanghai-Kunming Line, the area is a key location for land and water transportation in the province and a thriving commercial center. Historic sites include Bayong Tower and Tianning Temple, and the three caves in Beishan, Shuanglong, Binghu, and Chaozhen, are famous scenic spots.
