A general term for aggressive fish in the family Acanthopteridae. Many are kept as ornamental fish. Well-known species include the Taiwan goldfish, native to Taiwan, and the Korean carp, native to the Korean peninsula, both of which are less than 10cm long. Males build floating nests by blowing viscous bubbles from their mouths to protect their eggs. The Taiwan goldfish is classified as endangered (Ministry of the Environment, 4th Red List). Bettas are sometimes called Togyo fish. →Related article Paradise Fish Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
