〘名〙① 梁(はり)の上に立てて棟木(むなぎ)を支える短い柱。つか。うだつ。※書紀（720）仁徳元年正月（前田本訓）「桷(はへき)、梁(うつはり)、柱(はしら)、楹(ウダチ)藻(ゑかき)餝(かざ)らず」② (「うだち」は妻壁だけにあったところから) 妻壁をいう。後世、妻壁を屋根より一段高くして家の格式を示したり、また、町家ではこれに袖壁をつけて防火用としたりしたが、それらをも称した。→卯建(うだち)
