Cotton sash - Yuudasuki
[1] A sash made of cotton . When serving in a Shinto ritual, it was used to tie up one's sleeves. Since the Middle Ages, it has often been used as a poetic word, such as an introductory phrase that brings out the word "kaku" to mean "putting on a sash." *The Chronicles (720), September, 4th year of the reign of Emperor Yūkyō (Tosho-ryō Honkun) "At this time, everyone puts on cotton yufutasuki (traditional Japanese sash) and goes to the kettle to take a bath." *Genji (around 1001-14), Kasagi "It is wise to put on a sash, but I am thinking of autumn, and I love the autumn." [2] Pillow ① A sash that is put on the shoulder or arm, which is related to "kaku (kake)." *Gosen (around 951-953), Summer, 162 "Even if I put on a sash, I will not say that someone's name is Aoi, which is for purification, (unknown author)" ② A sash that is tied, which is related to "musubu." ※Tonbo (around 974) Vol. 1 “If the grief and lamentations of the evening come to an end, I will think it is a sign from God.”

[1] 木綿(ゆう)で作った襷。神事に奉仕するとき、これを用いて袖をからげた。中古以降は、歌語として、たすきをかける意で「かく」を引き出す序詞などとして用いられることも多い。※書紀(720)允恭四年九月(図書寮本訓)「是に諸人各木綿手繦(ユフタスキ)を着して釜に赴きて探湯(くかたち)す」※源氏(1001‐14頃)賢木「かけまくはかしこけれどもそのかみの秋思ほゆるゆふだすきかな」[2] ① たすきを、肩または腕にかける意で「かく(掛)」にかかる。※後撰(951‐953頃)夏・一六二「ゆふだすきかけてもいふなあだ人の葵てふ名はみそぎにぞせし〈よみ人しらず〉」② たすきを結ぶ意で、「むすぶ」にかかる。※蜻蛉(974頃)上「ゆふだすきむすぼほれつつ歎くこと絶えなば神のしるしと思はん」
