Adipic acid - Ajipinsan (English spelling) adipic acid

It is a chain-type saturated dicarboxylic acid and is also known as 1,4-butanedicarboxylic acid and hexanedioic acid.

It is synthesized by oxidizing cyclohexanol or cyclohexanone with nitric acid using ammonium vanadate as a catalyst. It can also be produced by hydrolysis of adiponitrile. It is a colorless columnar crystal that is slightly soluble in water and its aqueous solution is acidic. It is soluble in ethanol (ethyl alcohol) and acetone, but is practically insoluble in ether and hydrocarbon solvents. When heated, it becomes adipic anhydride. Cyclopentanone is produced by dry distillation of the calcium salt. It is an important raw material for nylon 66, and is also used as a raw material for polyester resins. Diesters of adipic acid with octyl alcohol, decyl alcohol, etc. are used as plasticizers and synthetic lubricants.

鎖式の飽和ジカルボン酸の一つで、1,4-ブタンジカルボン酸、ヘキサン二酸の別名をもつ。

　シクロヘキサノールないしはシクロヘキサノンを、バナジン酸アンモニウムなどを触媒として硝酸により酸化して合成する。アジポニトリルの加水分解によってもつくられる。無色の柱状結晶で、水にわずかに溶け、水溶液は酸性を示す。エタノール（エチルアルコール）、アセトンにはよく溶けるが、エーテル、炭化水素溶媒にはほとんど溶けない。加熱すると無水アジピン酸になる。カルシウム塩を乾留するとシクロペンタノンを生成する。ナイロン66の原料として重要であるほか、ポリエステル樹脂の原料としても用いられる。アジピン酸とオクチルアルコール、デシルアルコールなどとのジエステルは可塑剤や合成潤滑油としての用途をもつ。
