East Asian League - Touarenmei

An organization under the guidance of Ishihara Kanji that aimed to realize Ishihara's vision. Its official name was the East Asia League Association, but it became known by this nickname due to its monthly journal, the East Asia League. It was founded in Tokyo in October 1939 (Showa 14) by Kimura Takeo and others, and by the following year it had 15,000 members and was publishing about 30,000 copies of its journal. In China, Wang Jingwei, Miao Bin and others were also responding to this vision. Ishihara's vision was to make Japan the leader of Asia and the world, and to form an "Oriental civilization sphere" to achieve this. As a stepping stone to this vision, the East Asia League aimed to unify Japan, "Manchukuo," and China, and while preaching kingly governance, it also sought "cooperation in national defense" and "economic integration" in preparation for the final world war with the United States. For this reason, they attempted to bring an end to the Second Sino-Japanese War and opposed the outbreak of war with the United States, but lost influence under pressure from the Tojo Hideki Cabinet. In January 1946 (Showa 21), they were dissolved by the occupying forces.
