Japanese: Vāc（英語表記）Vac

In the Rig Veda, she is worshipped as a goddess who cleanses impurities and brings various wealth, probably because of the importance of the power of rivers to fertilize the land and the ability of water to purify. Later, in the Brahmanic mythology, she is identified with Vāc, the goddess of speech, who is also an important deity, and becomes the goddess of learning and the arts. She is also incorporated into Buddhism as one of the heavenly beings and worshipped as Benzaiten.

...The religion of ancient India, as it is known, was clearly polytheistic, with a great number of deities to which hymns were given. Most of the deities were natural phenomena, such as Agni, the fire god, or Bāyu, the wind god. Other deities include Tvaṣṭṛ, the craftsman, Dakṣa, the will, and Vāc, the goddess of language. The most revered deity was Indra, the god of war, to whom almost a quarter of the Rig-Veda hymns are dedicated.
